ABOUT GARD
The Group Against Reservoir Development, GARD, exists to question and challenge Thames Water’s proposal to build a massive Abingdon reservoir, and equally importantly, to promote better options. These have been thoroughly researched, are technically supported and would cost substantially less than TW’s reservoir.
GARD’s approach is based on technical, scientific, and engineering principles backed by expert independant water resources advice provided by leading authorities.
To date, GARD has drawn its support mainly from the local communities of Steventon, the Hanneys, Drayton and Marcham, the villages which bound Thames Water’s proposed reservoir. Because its cost impact would, however, extend to all TW customers, GARD is seeking to broaden its membership much more widely, and is actively seeking to attract new members.
